Because I wanted the artists which was featured on the front cover to represent the kind of music that my magazine is about I wanted to make sure that her costume reflected the artist and the magazine.
The main piece of this outfit is the black leather jacket. A black leather jacket represents a rough biker chic and will make the artists look tough and stylish as well. I chose for her to wear a lace detailing dark purple slip dress, which represents the artists' girly side. Because the look of the leather jacket, the boots and the rosary look so masculine I wanted to contrast that with a feminine piece. This is why I choose this dress because its feminine enough to make her look softer, however it still fits in with the ‘rocker chic’ feel to this costume. The rosary necklace maybe seen as controversial because it plays on the idea of religion but here I have just decided to use it because it goes well with the outfit and gives the idea that she is tough and going against religion. Because you wouldn't expect someone religious to be hard and edgy, instead you would expect them to seem good and cheerful. This could be seen as quite controversial.
In contrast to the rosary I chose for her to wear a black bangle which has diamantes in them which are in the shape of a peace sign. By having her wear this bangle it makes her seem hippy and makes her also seem like she is a friendly person. It makes the audience think she’s a friendly person because when you think of peace you think of happiness and friendliness with everyone. This will make her seem more relatable to the audience.
For her shoes I chose for her to wear a pair of military boots. This adds to the roughness of the whole look, the boots look as if they have been scuffed and worn which makes it seem like these boots are very old and cheap. By making it seem as if she’s wearing rough stuff, it makes it seem as if she’s quite down to earth and doesn't care about the expensive superficial things. This will again make her seem more relatable to the reader. On her legs I chose for her to wear black tights. I chose these because it creates a great silhouette of her legs against the white background and make her legs stand out. The denier of the tights also makes sure that you can still see her legs and makes he legs look more attractive. This will appeal to the male audiences. Overall I think that this costume conveys all of these ideas and will make my music magazine look modern and a ‘rock and indie’ style.
I decided that I wasn't going to use any props for this shoot because I think that the main focus should definitely be on the artist and just her. This will reflect the article on the double page spread that will be featured.
